EXTENDED SYNOPSIS:
Just moments after hunters Sinan (Tim McDonald) and Rax (Marea Lambert-Barker) kill a pheasant and collect its eggs for a meal, a flock of birds descends upon them with the intent to kill. Alerted to the melee, the BeastMaster, Dar (Daniel Goddard), arrives too late to stop Sinan from shooting an arrow in self-defense. The arrow misses its mark and hits Sharak, the eagle, who has been soaring overhead. Immediately, the birds disperse. As Dar and Tao (Jackson Raine) tend to Sharak’s wound, some of the birds return to the scene and perch close by. Dar instinctively knows that the attack was prompted by something other than revenge over the hunters’ kill, but cannot find out any more information as the birds refuse to talk to him.

Back at Sinan and Rax’s lodge, another hunter has been pecked to death by the birds. Dar refuses to choose sides between the animals and the humans, but Iara (Sam Healy) is sure that someone the birds have a protector who is intruding on her domain. She threatens to eliminate the birds if Dar doesn’t put an end to the attacks.

Dar and Tao take the wounded Sharak to the bird healer, Aviana (Bianca Chiminello), who is intrigued to learn that Dar is the BeastMaster, believing him to be a common spirit. She tells him that the birds thank her for her kindness with their beauty, songs and companionship, and that all she asks for in return is one of their feathers, each of which she has woven into a beautiful dream catcher. Aviana hints that this recent imbalance in nature is a result of the birds exacting revenge on humans for being preyed upon for so long.

During a second attack on the hunters’ lodge, Iara appears and uses her powers to take down an attacking hawk. Again, the other birds scatter. Dar and Tao reason that if the birds are seeking revenge against their predators, seeing one of their own fall would give them even more reason to fight. Aviana beseeches them to leave the hunters to their fate, claiming vengeance must be spent or it will grow into a greater conflict. When Dar won’t let up, Aviana suggests that he seek advice from the giant condor and asks him to bring back one of the condor’s feathers for her dream catcher.

When Sharak is healed, Aviana plucks a feather from his tail and proclaims that Sharak’s days of doing Dar’s bidding are over. She has come to believe that Dar is driven to save the hunters who will continue to prey on the birds. Sharak lets out a vicious shriek as she weaves his feather into the dream catcher, and when she runs her hand across the feathered tapestry, the other birds join in. She announces that today it is Sharak’s turn to lead the attack, and Dar will be his first victim.

As Dar makes his way through the forest, he picks up some fallen feathers and twists them aimlessly in his hands. Iara stops him, explaining that entwining the feathers of a bird lets you command it. Dar suddenly recalls Aviana’s dream catcher, and reveals to Iara that Aviana now seeks a feather from the condor. Realizing that the condor feather would give Aviana dominion over all the birds, Iara vows revenge and Dar is unable to stop her. Meanwhile, Sharak has been ordered to kill Dar, but the eagle struggles with inner turmoil. Reacting to Aviana’s rage, Sharak transforms into a man right before Dar’s eyes. Dar learns that long ago the Ancient One took Sharak’s love, The Sorceress, into service and then turned him into an eagle to keep him from stealing her back. It took all the power of Sharak’s human side to resist Aviana’s order, and the resistance finally tore him apart.

Now the race is on to stop Aviana. In a mad pursuit, Sharak chases her to the edge of a cliff where she drops her dream catcher in the scuffle. In her struggle to escape, she and Sharak go hurtling over the cliff’s edge. Dar grabs the dream catcher and scatters the feathers loose. Miraculously, Sharak morphs back into an eagle and takes flight. Aviana, however, falls to her death. With the dream catcher in ruins and their avenging angel dead, the birds finally revert to their peaceful nature.
